Museum "Vēveri"
“VĒVERI” RURAL EXHIBITION OF THE ETHNOGRAPHIC OPEN AIR MUSEUM OF LATVIA IN VECPIEBALGA
The history of “Vēveri” in Vecpiebalga dates as far back as 400 years. It is mentioned for the first time in Swedish accountant documents in 1601 as one household and at the end of the 17th century it was marked on the map. During the long period of peace after the Great Northern War, the population increased. The layout and construction of the homesteads that we see now started forming at that time. With the aim to preserve the national building complex samples in their typical landscape, the museum “Vēveri” has been a rural exhibition of the Ethnographic Open Air Museum of Latvia since the 1980s.
